How to redeem a game key
A game key adds the game to your account's library. Redeem it on the account where you want to play the game; after you redeem it, the key is tied to that account.

Before you start
- Check the region of the key and of the account: how to check your region.
- Sign in to the right account. A key can't be moved to another account after you redeem it.
- Copy the code or type it exactly. Some keys come as an image: see key images.
PlayStation (PS5 and PS4)
A PlayStation code has 12 characters.
- PS5: open PlayStation Store, choose the … menu at the top and choose Redeem Code.
- Web: sign in at store.playstation.com, choose your profile avatar and choose Redeem Code.
- PlayStation App: open PlayStation Store in the app, then the menu icon, and choose Redeem Code.
Enter the code and confirm. The game is added to your library and you download it from there.
Xbox and Microsoft Store
- Web: open xbox.com/redeem or redeem.microsoft.com, sign in and enter the 25-character code.
- Console: press the Xbox button, choose Store, press the View button to open the side menu and choose Redeem.
- Xbox PC app: choose your profile picture (gamerpic), then Settings and Redeem.
After you confirm, the game appears in your Xbox library and you can install it. The Xbox mobile app can't redeem codes.
Steam
- Sign in to Steam in the desktop app.
- Open the Games menu and choose Activate a Product on Steam.
- Accept the Subscriber Agreement and choose Next.
- Enter the key and choose Next. The game is added to your library.
Some Steam keys are restricted by country. If Steam says the product isn't available in your country, don't try again and write to support.
Nintendo eShop
- On your Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 open Nintendo eShop and choose your user.
- On the left side choose Enter Code (Americas) or Redeem Code (Europe) and enter the 16-character Download Code without hyphens (not the Control Number).
- Confirm. The game is added to the account and downloads from the eShop. You can also redeem at ec.nintendo.com/redeem.
Other platforms
For game keys on other platforms (for example publisher launchers), open the official app and look for the option to redeem a code (Redeem code or Activate). Follow only the instructions on the official site.
Pre-orders
Most sellers deliver the code on the game's release day, so there is usually nothing to preload. If the code arrives before the release and you redeem it, the platform treats it as a pre-order:
- The game is added to your library as a pre-order.
- The platform might let you download it in advance (preload), if the publisher allows it.
- The game unlocks automatically at the release date and time, by the platform's clock.
